The rustle of Kanjivaram silk, the scent of jasmine, I grew up watching these moments, inspired by my family and my musical idols. Kanjeevaram sarees have been part of my world long before I began wearing them on stage. Coming from a musical family, my grandmother, mother, aunts, and my gurus took great care in choosing Kanjivaram sarees for their performances. Growing up in the US, I watched elders around me drape heirloom saris for festivals like Golu, and I was always mesmerised by their colours and grandeur. It’s only in the last few years that I’ve begun wearing sarees for my own concerts, often draping my mother’s, and slowly building a collection of my own. Learning about Kanjeevaram weaves, the motifs, techniques and zari, has been truly eye-opening. Visiting Taneira by Tata and choosing a saree here felt like being guided through living tradition, with every weave carrying its own story. A trusted home for timeless weaves.
