The holistic nature of Yoga and the versatile spirit of sarees, the two timeless parts of our opulent culture, empower women to embody strength, grace and authenticity.
Taneira celebrates all the real women who have been a living testament of this, like Dr. Tara Deshpande.
A remarkable woman, Dr. Deshpande became renowned in the 1940s for her unique style - driving a car in a white 9-yard saree - in the small town of Ratnagiri. Her legendary badminton matches in the 1950s, donning the same 9-yard saree, have become an integral part of local folklore.
In the late 1950s, she fearlessly established her own maternity hospital, challenging societal norms.During the 1970s, upon relocating to Pune, she would commute 30 kilometers on a Luna scooter, faithfully wearing her signature 9-yard saree, to reach her hospital.
Approaching her retirement as a doctor, at the age of 58, she discovered yoga and dedicated the next 30 years of her life to training people in this discipline, even starting a yoga group for ladies during her visit to her son in the US. Now, at the age of 92, she continues to practice yoga and credits it for her enduring fitness.
Her exceptional journey is every bit an inspiration for us!
